WHAT DOES A BOWEN SESSION INVOLVE?
In the calm and relaxing environment of my clinic, we will discuss what has brought you to the clinic, the problems you are experiencing, and how these are affecting your life. During this discussion, I will also take a detailed medical history and this will be followed by an overall assessment of the body.
Once this has been completed, you will be asked to relax on the treatment couch or, alternatively, seated if this is more comfortable for you. I will then make a series gentle rolling moves across muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia followed by a short break. The short break allows your body to respond to the moves I have made and it's these breaks that make Bowen unique!
Bowen work is carried out directly on the skin or through light clothing, according to your preference; you will be covered appropriately with towels or blankets. Please avoid wearing anything slippery and you may be asked to remove thick jumpers/sweaters.
Bowen sessions generally last 45-60 minutes. Your first session, which includes a consultation covering medical history and assessments, is likely to be 60-90 minutes. The amount of work done within a session will be determined by your condition. During the session, breaks will be given to allow your body to respond to the moves made. You may feel tingling, heat or pressure as your muscles relax and blood flows.
*Please note* A parent or carer must be present during any session for children under the age of 16 and vulnerable adults.
