ABOUT BOWEN THERAPY
WHAT IS THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE?
The Bowen Technique, or Bowen Therapy, is a gentle and non-invasive hands on therapy that many turn to for significant relief from aches and pains. The Bowen technique doesn't treat specific conditions, but addresses the body as a whole, restoring balance, assisting your body's natural healing process and helping you to relax - releasing muscle tensions.
IS BOWEN SUITABLE FOR ME?
Because the Bowen technique is gentle, non-invasive and with no vigorous manipulation, it is suitable for nearly everyone; from new born babies to elderly adults and is even used in palliative care.

WHAT DOES A BOWEN SESSION INVOLVE?
In a calm and relaxing environment of your choice, either in your home, in my clinic at The Treatment Rooms or at your place of work (Corporate days), I will ask you about your medical history and discuss the reasons for your visit. For certain conditions I may request approval from your GP before you receive any Bowen and all clients are reminded to always discuss any concerns with their health or medication with their GP.
In your Bowen session you can either lie on a couch or, alternatively, be seated if this is more comfortable for you.
Bowen work is carried out directly on the skin or through light clothing, according to your preference; you will be covered appropriately with towels or blankets.
Bowen sessions generally last 45-60 minutes. Your first session, which includes a consultation covering medical history and assessments, is likely to be 60-90 minutes. The amount of work done within a session will be determined by your condition. During the session, breaks will be given to allow your body to respond to the moves made. You may feel tingling, heat or pressure as your muscles relax and blood flows.
*Please note* A parent or carer must be present during any session for children under the age of 16 and vulnerable adults.
Please note that due to COVID-19, where possible, I will email pre-appointment consultation forms, or if you would prefer a pre-appointment phone call can be made to discuss medical history, reasons for your visit and any other queries you may have. This is to reduce the amount of time we will be within the same space to honor social distancing rules.
I will be carrying out treatments in a mask and protective face shield and will take both your temperature and my own in front of you with a contactless thermometer. You will also be asked to use the hand sanitizer provided.
I ask that clients bring or have ready 2 towels in a bag if attending my clinic.
I will not be travelling from one client, directly to another. Time will be allowed between clients, for me to change clothing between clients and sanitize equipment.
Thank you for your support and patience at this time.
